Creator Beer Club 002: Weddings, Shenanigans, and Celebrations — oh my!

See you at the next Creator Beer Club on August 24, 2021 — at Other Half Brewing Company.

Erin + Luke  here 👋

It's been a few months since we've started this journey — drinking beers on patios around Brooklyn, talking about the Creator Economy with those who work in it (or live in it!) and we're excited to see what's to come.

We went on a bit of a hiatus as of late, (ahem, sorry Erin got married at a ballpark) but we're back in action tomorrow, August 24, at 7PM at Other Half Brewing Company in Domino Park

If you have any feedback — feel free to reply to this email and tell us what's up.

Cheers 🍻

Pour a glass, let's discuss: financing creators

The creator world has exploded over the last two years — but the question remains, who's here to stay, and who's just joining the wave? and how can someone *actually* make a living doing this?

It feels like there's been an explosion of startups, fundraises, and energy placed in the financing side of the creator economy, with Stir, Pico, Beacons, Drop Party, LinkInBio, Ko-Fi, Patreon, and Norby among others. But as we've always seen when a trend takes off — It's easy to build something — its much harder to stop and think about the long-term impacts of who these tools benefit.

With the recent news about OnlyFans, (and what the BBC discovered about how they handle illegal content) — I'm consistently thinking through how the decisions of these payment providers and platforms can help, harm or hinder a creator's career.

I believe in the power of abundance there's room for multiple players in this space, a but without a doubt, we'll see different niche's take over different sectors. But more importantly, I'm really into this idea of a Creator's Bill of Rights, coined by Bremner Morris for TechCrunch — how is the industry protecting creators?  How are we creating a diverse environment lifting up the many, not the few? What, if anything, at the end of these days are these platforms taking a stand for — or choosing not to take a stand for?

No matter what your thoughts are on the scenario — I'd love to hear from you!

Reply to this email and tell me your thoughts.

Cheers 🍻

PS — while you're noodling this — read this piece by Clio Chang in the Columbia Journalism Review, a piece I've often read (and re-read) capturing some of my own personal thoughts and dilemma's on the creator economy.
